Our Church History

God has been part of the Atascadero Church of the Nazarene from the very beginning.  What an awesome thought to know that God planned for this church to reach the community around it with the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we continue to be obedient to His leading, He will do things above and beyond anything we could ever dream or imagine.

It all started in a tent...The Atascadero Church of the Nazarene! Grass floor, rickety old folding chairs, a bench as an altar... and a loud preacher. In that summer of 1935, the Rev. Pierce and two young men, Frank Watkins and Frank West, conducted the services. Oh the music was great - the pianist could really play the piano - and the song leader could sing and blow the trumpet. The preacher spoke of hell a lot, but he also shared the Good News of Jesus.

The aforementioned tent was located where Shores Station and Atascadero Realty currently are. Those first members of Atascadero Nazarene often met in a number of store buildings. The first was next door to the Atascadero Market.

Socials, we had many. We might not have been a large congregation in those early days, but there was much loving fellowship. God was good to this little flock! It was a happy day when a piece of property was made available to us on Palma Ave. The church was incorporated on December 14, 1936. We were able to borrow $2,500 to build God's house. No one was paid to work...all helped in the building project! In the early spring of 1937, we moved into our new building

Now under the leadership of , we continue to expect great things from a great God! We are excited about what God has in store for the future of Atascadero Church of the Nazarene.
